The 411 On Home Business Networks

By Jim Witt

Setting up a home network can seem overwhelming, but if you understand what's going on it's not so bad. Here, we will be discussing some basic information about home networks and the equipment they use. Once you understand what a home network really is, you may find it easier to learn how to actually set it up.

There are many reasons people set up home business networks. You don't even need to have a real business in order to need a home network. The benefits they provide can be an asset to individuals, families, or businesses.

The biggest benefit to having a home network is having all your computers on the same network. You only have to set up one network which saves a lot of time. You will only need one password and any security measures you set up on your network will protect all your computers.

Home networks also have the ability to share files. Any computer on the network can have access to any file on that network. This makes it so you don't have to transfer files manually from one computer to another.

Having a home network also helps when you're printing. If you connect your printer to your network it will allow any computer on the network to print to it without having to move even one chord. You can do the same thing with copy or fax machines as well.

Some people may think that there is a lot of equipment involved in a home network, but there isn't especially if your network is wireless. With less equipment comes less setup and that just makes everything easier. It's especially nice for a home because you don't want your home looking like an office.

The biggest purchase you will make will be the router. You will need to decide on whether you want a wired router or a wireless router. This will depend on your internet and whether it's wireless. Other than the router, you will only need a few cables to hook into the internet and to hook any other machines to your network.

There are many benefits in having a home network. It may not be right for everyone, but if you have two or more computers it can definitely make things more convenient. If you are looking to set one up, make sure you understand what it is beforehand and you will find it much easier to set up.
